Chef David Hawksworth has been named Newsmaker of the Year by Pacific/Prairie Restaurant News. He was awarded the honour in recognition of his work with the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship and the award was presented to him on February 25th, 2013 at the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel, during a reception hosted by the Canadian Association of Foodservices Professionals. “Looking back on my career, I’m deeply humbled,” said Chef Hawksworth, “I never thought I would be on stage being recognized for giving back to young chefs. This wouldn’t have been possible without the constant support from our sponsors and Judges.”
Chef Hawksworth was given the award for his outstanding efforts to inspire and educate young chefs through the Hawksworth Young Scholarship, which is a non-profit culinary foundation that he created in 2013 to provide a platform for talented young Canadian chefs to get a head start in their career. The winner of the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship receives $10,000, provided by the Chefs’ Table Society of BC, and a stage at a top international restaurant – giving them the inspiration and opportunity needed to develop their professional skills.
